This breather netting is necessary to allow the air around your project in the press to evacuate properly. If you don't use this net when you start pumping air out of your vacuum press, the vinyl could be sucked against the project and therefore wouldn't allow all the air to be removed from the press.

By placing this net under the valve and across your project, it creates a passage to let air out of the bag.
